Unmasked: A Super Hero Shares Her Story

Today on Heroes Wanted, we are introducing you to a Super Hero among us!

Blair Shackle is on an adventure to her authentic heart. After losing her job in the media late in 2011, she founded The Turquoise Heart on a journey to find her “happy place” in early 2012. It’s a warm spot she uses to reconnect through wisdom, recharge through adventure, and help others rediscover and enjoy their unique, special hearts. Mix in travel, healthy living, and laughter, and it’s nothing but happy trails.

No secrets here, Blair is also the web editor and communications guru for Peace Begins With Me. Because she is an everyday hero, we want to share a bit of her journey with you.

Oh and, she would love to connect with you on Facebook and Twitter!

Here is part one of her super hero advice!

Given who you are, what’s your super hero advice? What do you know for sure?

We are as heroic as we want to be—life is all about what you put in to it. I’m learning that every day…the more positivity, happiness, smiles, laughter, adventure you put out there, the more comes in return. It’s so simple, but like attracts like. The more you are yourself, the more you allow good to radiate in the world!

We all can choose happiness and once you make that choice, it feels oh-so-good!

What’s your definition of a super hero for yourself?

I am a super hero when I feel empowered to be my whole self. So…when I am silly, free, creative, inspired, energetic, and having as much fun as possible! When I feel like I’m adding something positive to the world…

What’s your definition of a super hero for others?

Someone who lives in their authentic heart space. Being fearless when it comes to their happiness, accepting themselves and others, and being present in the moment.

This may sound crazy, but someone who is both selfish and selfless at the same time. It is possible to take care of yourself and others at the same time (but it really starts with yourself!).

When did you find out you had super powers?

I knew I had super powers when I was young, and then I seemed to lose track of them along the way, as do many people. Right before I lost my job, I kept hearing the same two words in my head: “turquoise heart.” I had no idea what it meant, but they kept pestering me. A few short weeks after I was unemployed, I started The Turquoise Heart blog. I knew then I was being encouraged to share the stories from my life (from struggles with bullying and depression to happy times in my travels and family) and start inspiring myself and others.

What’s one easy first step on the road to super powers (related to what you do)?

If you have a dream that constantly taps you on the shoulder, don’t ignore it anymore! If you’re unhappy, remember that you have a choice. If you dream of a more flexible schedule, ask for one. If you want to travel the world, start planning your adventure, I promise it will happen. If you want to change the world, start making yourself happy and healthy!

We’ll hear more from Blair later in the week!
